Goodbye

June 4, 2008

I don’t think I even got that many hits, but I think I’m going to say goodbye to whoever read anything here, or even visited my blog, I hope you liked it all, and now the years over, so I guess there will be no more posts or any of that I’m going to try to keep my blog and keep posting every once in a while, but thanks for reading everyone. So, goodbye.

What we should do with our blogs.

June 4, 2008

I personally think that we should keep them just to look at sometimes. It’s always nice to look at your old writing and seeing how you’ve changed, or just laugh at the stupid things that you used to say. The way I see it is that the blogs are already here, why get rid of them? I also always like to come home and write a post every week, after a while, I stopped doing it to do an assignment but started doing it just to write. I think that we should keep the blogs just to further ourselves and our writing.

The lightning thief book report

May 28, 2008

Percy Jackson is a half blood who’s father is poseidon. He lives in New York city as an average kid until one day he is to go to the beach with his mother when he is attacked by the minotaur and taken to camp half blood. Half bloods such as percy are attacked by monsters often because of an aura they give off.

At camp half blood he meets many people. His main friends are a girl named Thalia and a boy named Luke. Thalia becomes one of Percy’s closest friends. During the book however you find out that Luke hates and is against the gods because his father who is Hermes abandoned him like the other gods did to the other half bloods.

Most of the half bloods have a special weapon given to them by their parent who is a god or goddess. Thalia has a hat that turns her invisible, Percy has the sword rip tide, and other half bloods have things like spears that shock you and shoes that give you the power of flight.

The protagonist is of course Percy, and his actions are motivated by a quest given to him by the oracle. The antagonist is Luke and his actions are motivated by his hate for the gods. I would highly reccomend this novel, It’s a great book to read, especially to pass the time.

Walk don’t run.

May 28, 2008

There’s nothing better if you ask me, than a walk home from somewhere. A nice long walk, you would be amazed at the things you miss when you ride a bus, a bike, or are just in some kind of big hurry. The major thing is to relax, listen to the birds, the wind, simply nature, simply bliss. Walking is a great way to get more in touch with your self, or it could be a good way to calm down. We all know that you can’t enjoy anything if you feel rushed, so just like in anything else, enjoy a walk, walk to walk, don’t think of walking to get somewhere. It’s the best time to forget about what you have to do when you get home, to think about how much homework you have or what your grades are. Another thing that we all know is that noone knows you better than yourself, and when you’re all alone taking a walk, it’s always good to remember who you are. Everyone knows they act different around other people, and I think that when you take a walk alone it’s a great time to get in touch with yourself again. If you’re reading this then I have some advice, tomorrow, go somewhere relaxing and then just take a nice walk home, I promise that you won’t regret it.

That truck outside my window.

May 7, 2008

The clock says 4:30 but I’m sure I’m sure I’m hearing an alarm. A beep beep beep but I don’t think it’s my wake up call, something about it just sounds slightly wrong.

I get less drowsy, and I realize it’s coming from outside. It’s a truck! And look, it’s backing up, but whats this? the driver must not realize that his back wheel is stuck!

Oh the things I would say to him, oh the things I would do, oh the words I’m thinking of right now, oh, WHAT A FOOL!

I clench my fist, ready to yell, But I guess I didn’t notice that I just fell, my eyes are heavy and I can’t keep steady,  but he’d better not be here in the morning, because let me tell you, he’d get it buddy.

Speed

April 28, 2008

Speed. Something that can crush you down and keep you still or can free you. The most incredible element in anything. The wind rushing in your face, eyes stinging, and the simple controlling power it has over you. Rushing down a mountain or falling to earth, or watching the ocean move under you as you catch a wave. Speed is one of the things that defines extreme. How uncontrollable something is, how much power it has over you, and how much you crave it. I feel that the speed of things can free you. When I’m going  down a mountain or catch a wave, I know that I’m not in control, and that the slightest error could send me flying, tumbling, or possibly even kill me. Something big is that to have even the slightest control of speed, of this overwhelming power, you need to understand that you can’t fight it, that you have no control of it. You have to let it move, all you do is guide it. You can’t expect to conquer such a thing, but you can attempt to use it.

If you were to ask me, I would tell you that there are different types of speed depending on what you are doing, and the element in which you are working in. There are always different things that control you. For something like surfing, you have to understand that you aren’t controlling the waves but the other way around. I believe that the best way to become good at this kind of thing is to almost have a tight relationship with the ocean. It demands respect, and when you really know how to give it that respect that it deserves, is when it gives you a favor in return.

Snowboarding is the same concept, but in a different element. You turn, you weave, and you  carve, but if you try to push the board too far, and try to control the element of speed in which you are working in, you will most definitely be thrown. Once again, you need a respect for the mountain. I have noticed that this respect and this understanding simply comes to you, it’s not something you can just get right away.

The main thing you need to understand, is that the reason we use a board, or skiis, or a surf board or a parachute, is because you don’t ride, or control that craft, instead that craft controls you and you simply guide it, to become good at things like these, you need to gain this respect for the elements only you yourself can gain.

Poem for Life

April 22, 2008

Life is a festering sore or a calming sea of turquoise. The meaning of life is perhaps not a meaning but an opinion.

Who’s meaning? his, hers, mine or yours? Bad, good, sad, glad? Thanks, or no thanks?

Maybe it can be a story, a word, a number, or a rhyme. Maybe it can be the alarm clock ringing, telling you you’re late, or you’re on time. Maybe its a single line saying, “You’d better be home by nine”

Maybe today it will be the clouds brooding and ugly. Maybe tomorrow it will be the sunshine in all of its beauty.

Maybe it’s him, or maybe its her. Or maybe it’s even who’s at the door. Maybe its getting that paper in on time. Maybe it’s when you went to buy that one big thing, but you realized that you were missing only a dime.

Maybe you tried to write it or make it. Maybe it is soft, and holds you like a blanket, or maybe it itches to the point you can’t take it, or maybe it is holding and sticky like clay.

But whatever you think I will say, I don’t think I will never be able to tell you the meaning of life for me, not any day. Because every time you think you can say “I’ve got it today” It seems to slip away and change, the very next day.

Passion

April 17, 2008

One thing that I am passionate about is parkour. It is an exercise  in which the participant  uses  his  surroundings to make their own personal playground. there are a series of vaults, jumps, and styles for doing parkour. We run up walls, jump over obstacles and break through the everyday cage of our urban surroundings. We don’t confine ourselves to the stairs, instead we go over the wall, instead of walking around something, we go over it. It is a way of freedom. It is the decision of whether to let the city you live in trap you, or free you. Parkour is more than just a past time, it is a discipline. It makes you have an awareness of what you are really capable of. It makes you have an awareness of your surroundings that many do not. Parkour is also great because all you need is yourself, and you don’t even need that great a pair of shoes. It’s a great way to make yourself stronger, and more in tone with your body. Parkour frees people, that is why it’s my passion. Over, under, through.

Wrapping it up

March 7, 2008

Well, look like this project on darfur is coming to an end. I hope that everyone will still be active in helping it though. I am very happy that we have gotten so many comments and so many people to be darfur aware. I think that this is definitely a cause worth fighting for. I’m sorry to say that the project is coming to an end, however, even if the project is coming to an end, the genocide is not right now, so we need to keep fighting for what we know is right. Save Darfur!

China, Fueling the fire, for fuel

March 5, 2008

Mass killing, rape, and displacement. Genocide is what it is, and it needs to be stopped. But did you know that the UN has tried to stop it? Did you know that efforts to stop it have all been stopped by
China? China gets a lot of oil from Sudan, in return
China gives them weapons and ammunition and money.

The Sudanese government takes a big part in the genocide of
Darfur. They help the Janjaweed storm villages by flying over head and bombing the villages while the Janjaweed come in on horse back or in trucks and kill the people trying to flee. This strategy is called scorched earth. It is quick, deadly, and immensely bloody work. The Sudanese government is also what supplies the Janjaweed with what weapons they have.

I strongly support boycotting the Chinese Olympics. The Chinese government cannot simply get away with helping in genocide. The Olympics has been called by many the “Genocide Olympics”.
China needs to stop supporting such a monstrosity. If the cost is the Olympics, then so be it. The genocide needs to be stopped, but what China is doing is exactly the opposite, instead of being against the genocide, they are protecting it, and perhaps even fueling it, all for some flammable liquid buried deep in the earth of
Sudan.
